Chalcedony

Chalcedont promotes optimism and goodwill. It is also aids in relieving of depression, irritability, and hostility. It brings relief to throat and neck ailments as well as improves use of one's voice. Chalcedony promotes generosity, responsiveness, and receptivity. It is used to treat dementia, eye problems, leukemia, melancholy, fever, and gallstones. Chalcedony is believed to instill maternal instincts, promotes mental stability, calms the nervous system, and tranquilizes worried thoughts. Ancients gave White Chalcedony to nursing mothers to increase lactation.
Another name for chalcedony is agate, although the term agate is usually used to describe the banded varieties of chalcedony. Many agates are naturally coloured, others are stained for decorative effect. Varieties include chrysoprase, cornelian (carnelian, sard, sardonyx, onyx, plasma, bloodstone, myrickite. There are many differently named varieties of agate depending on their appearance such as moss agate, fossilised wood. and other forms of fossil. Jasper also belongs to this group, and contains impurities which cause heavy pigmentation.
